you may have noticed some unexpected sound effects between songs. these are the work of mid-century composer and Eastman faculty member Eric Siday (not to be confused with the pianist and impressionist Erik Satie), who claimed to be the first composer specifically inspired by radio and television. his 1971 album “the sound of now” is a set of 108 station ids, background music clips, and other sound effects for a hypothetical broadcast station. we ended up with a copy of it, and found it a real home on the airwaves…
